Collection of insects
The collection of insects Friedrich Deubel is another scientifically significant collection, held by “Transilvania” University of Braşov. Friedrich Deubel was a famous entomologist, recognized at European level, born in 1845 at Braşov. Suffering from a stomach illness, the doctor recommended him to spend much time in the open. Thus, as a result of the trips he made around Braşov, he started to collect a series of animals, especially beetles. During a balneary cure at Pystian (nowadays Slovakia), he met the Austrian entomologist Max von Hopfgarten from Vienna, the one who initiated him in the scientific collecting and in the beetle-sample preparing modality. His entomologic collection was donated in 1898 to the College Honterus from Braşov, at the time having 30 showcases that contained 12.528 specimens. He was one of the founders of the Saxon Museum from Ţara Bârsei, to whom he donated his beetle collection.

After 1948, its greatest part was taken over, as a result of the donation from Deubel’s offspring, by the Institute of Silviculture from Braşov (approximately 60 showcases) which have been kept so far in the Forest Protection Museum of the Faculty of Silviculture and Forest Engineering from Braşov. It includes various species of insects, especially beetles and butterflies, which reflect the entomo-fauna from our country, and not only, at late XIX-th century and early XX-th century. As regards the specimen preservation, they are kept in glass-protected showcases with wood support, shaped as drawers, specially intended to this purpose. Their evidence has not been shown by any document.
